What are sensory bins used for?

Sensory Bins allow children to play and learn using their senses. They explore, learn, create and imagine all while playing.

What types of ‘bins’ can I use?

You can use anything from a shoebox to a plastic container for sensory play bins. I would suggest determining what you want in your bin before choosing what to use for your bin.

Is there such a thing as too many items in the sensory bin?

Yes! Too many items and the child could get overstimulated. I tend to go with a less is more approach but generally have a bucket of extra items in case they want to change something out or add/remove items. This also allows them to ‘design’ their own bin.
