Videos for Teaching Contractions

Happy October! I can’t believe how fast this year has gone! The school year is in full swing which means so is our learning. I love teaching about contractions every year and I have found some amazing videos to help with this topic. If you’re students are struggling with how to form contractions, these videos will help!

Videos that Teach Contractions

I know I always talk about a BrainPOP Jr. video, but I really like the way this video explains how to form contractions. This would be a great video to start out with when you are introducing this topic. Click the link here to go to the video. You will need a subscription to view this video, but the subscription is well worth it.

This next video shows how contractions are formed by removing letters and adding an apostrophe. Students will love this “construction” themed video!

This quick video has a beachy feel to the song and your students will love singing along to it.

Jack Hartman is back again with another tune that students will love. This will be a great song to have students get up and move their body while they sing along!

This video is a little on the longer side, but you can show it in chunks. The video brings the two words on the screen first. Here’s my suggestion to make this a fun assessment for your students. Give your students whiteboard and when the two words come on the screen, pause it and have your students write what they think the contraction is. They can self-check when you push play again or you can have them raise their boards first! Students will love yelling out “yes!!” when they get it right!

Well there you have it, guys! Another teaching video round up is in the books! Are you liking these posts?! I hope they are helpful and save you time during your busy week! If there’s a topic/content area you want me to find videos for next, write me a comment below! Happy Teaching!
