1st Grade Classroom Rules and Expectations Slideshow

Category: Grades: , Seasonals: ,

Description

These 1st grade classroom rules and expectations activities give students a voice in creating the guidelines for their classroom and school. Instead of simply posting a list of rules, this resource uses a ready-to-use slideshow and matching worksheets to help students understand why rules matter and take ownership of the expectations.

The included slideshow walks students through important discussions about rules in different areas of the school. It helps them think about why certain behaviors are important and encourages them to consider how rules help everyone feel safe and successful. After each discussion, students complete a worksheet where they create two rules for that specific area and explain why the rule matters.

This packet covers 14 common school areas including the classroom, hallway, cafeteria, playground, restroom, library, computer lab, music room, art room, gymnasium, and more. Each worksheet gives students space to write or draw their rules and explain their thinking.

Because students help create the rules, they become more invested in following them. This leads to stronger classroom management and a more positive classroom community right from the start of the year. The activity also supports social emotional learning as students think about respect, safety, and responsibility.

Use the slideshow and worksheets during the first week of school, morning meetings, or classroom management lessons. You can collect the finished pages to create a class book or display them as a reminder of the expectations students helped build.

These no-prep classroom rules and expectations activities make setting up your classroom culture meaningful and collaborative instead of teacher-directed only.

These 1st grade classroom rules and expectations activities help students take ownership of their learning environment from day one.
