Description
These magic e emergent readers help students practice long a, long i, long o, and long u. Each page pairs a picture with a simple line, so beginning readers can check the word as they read. A question on every page also gives them a reason to reread.
This set is perfect for small groups, literacy centers, and take-home bags. You can print in color or black and white. One sheet prints on both sides and makes two books. Then you cut the page in half, add two staples, and pass them out. Color copies work well as reusable sets. Black-and-white copies are ideal for book bags and home reading.
Each booklet focuses on one magic e vowel, plus a mixed booklet for review. Students meet ten target words in each book. Repeated lines such as “Look at the cake” help them track print. Simple questions such as “Is the cake on the gate?” add expression. Sight words like look, the, is, and at show up again and again. Words such as on and at also appear, so students practice meaning while they decode CVCe words.
The pages also help you group with purpose. Start with the pre-test. Students read real words and nonsense words. The teacher copy gives you a place to mark errors. If a student needs more support, pull the matching reader. Listen as students read to you or a buddy. Then use the activity page. Students write the word for each picture and can look back in the book. When they are ready, give the post-test and check growth.
These booklets also fit morning work, early finishers, sub plans, and intervention. Laminate a color set and let students circle each silent e word. Send the black-and-white set home so families can listen. Because the text repeats, students can practice again without new prep. In addition, the mixed reader lets you review all four long vowel sounds.
Use these magic e emergent readers for silent e practice that still feels friendly in kindergarten and first grade.
