April Read Aloud Book Recommendations

Ahh who else can FINALLY see spring on the horizon?! I know that I have been waiting anxiously for the weather to break and for flowers to bloom! And now with the month of April just a few days away, I can definitely smell spring in the air.

I’m back to share this month’s top recommended read aloud books for your classroom. I hope you are enjoying this series of blogs just as much as I am.

April Fool! Watch Out at School! by Dianne deGroat

Do you like to celebrate April Fools in your classroom? Do you play tricks on your students or do your students play tricks on you!? If your students loved Gilbert in the Valentine’s Day read aloud, they will love this story about Gilbert trying to play tricks on all of his friends for April Fools Day!

The Lorax by Dr. Seuss

You can’t go through April without reading this story. Teach students about “going green” and the importance of taking care of the environment. And who knows, maybe if your students are lucky, they will get to watch the movie, too!

Grandpa Green by Lane Smith

Grab the tissues everyone! Not only is this a story about a garden a grandfather created, but about holding onto memories and passing them down from one generation to the next. The illustrations in this book are captivating and the story of family and love is heartwarming. A must!

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs by Judi Barrett

One of my favorite stories ever! I love using this story for narrative writing with my students and watch as their imagination soars. Again, another chance for your kiddos to watch a movie (if they’re lucky!) Whenever we watch movies based on books, of course I find a way to tie something educational in. Compare and contrast!? Yes, this is a perfect one for that.

The Runaway Egg by Katy Hudson

Do you ever hatch eggs in your classroom? This book would be a perfect edition as it’s fun, lighthearted and shows students that you need to wait and watch for that egg to hatch! This is also great if you have some students in your classroom that might be expecting some new siblings!

Spring is here, my friends and I think reading these books will put you in the spring mood even if the weather isn’t totally cooperating where you live! Happy reading!
