Using Videos to Teach Compound Words

Where did October go? Or maybe you’re feeling the complete opposite and you’re thinking “when will it end?!” Either way, I’m back to bring you some more videos that you can use when you are teaching new content in your classroom.

I don’t know about you, but I love teaching compound words to my students. There are so many fun activities that you can use while teaching this topic, like these compound word worksheets, but these videos will be a great place to start.

Compound Words Teaching Videos

This video uses monsters Lexi and Rexi to teach about to form compound words use picture cards. I love this version because it shows how you change the meaning when you combine the two words. You can always pause the video and have your students write out the new word on a whiteboard.

You know I’m going to share about another BrainPOP Jr. video. Like I’ve said many times over, this subscription is totally worth it. There is a video for almost everything. Again, it’s good to switch things up but if I’m having trouble finding a video I like, I know I can always turn to BrainPOP Jr.

This video goes through many examples of compound words and shows students how two words form a brand new word with a completely different meaning.

Here is a quick song that you can use as a quick warm up or review. You can even have your students come up with more examples to add to a new verse.

This video would be great to show students to assess their knowledge of compound words. This video is actually a game. The screen shows two picture cards and asks the students to guess. It even has a timer, but of course, pause if your students need more time. I would suggest using whiteboards to accompany this video.
